Valheim’s immersive sandbox gameplay is earning critical acclaim, but veterans of the genre should find most of its mechanics fairly familiar. In particular, using crafting stations to forge new items. Here’s how to upgrade a workbench in Valheim so you keep expanding your settlement moving forward.
Before you upgrade your workbench, you’ll obviously need to have built one first. Luckily, this is nice a simple, and requires only that you gather some basic materials; namely, x10 Wood. You’ll also need to have crafted a hammer to unlock the recipe itself, which requires x2 Wood and x3 Stone.
It’s worth noting, too, that workbenches need a shelter built over them, which requires yet more Wood for the door, walls, and thatched roof.
How to Upgrade a Workbench in Valheim
Once you have your workbench, upgrading it is also a cinch. You only actually need to place necessary items nearby to automatically upgrade it, and most of them can be crafted from readily available resources.
There are five different tiers of the upgraded workbench (including the base version), each requiring a different item to automatically upgrade. Here’s each item and which resources you’ll need to craft them:
- Chopping Block – x10 Wood, x10 Flint
- Tanning Rack – x10 Wood, x15 Flint, x20 Leather Scraps, x5 Deer Hide
- Adze – x10 Fine Wood, x10 Bronze
- Tool Shelf – x4 Iron, x1 Fine Wood, x4 Obsidian
