Valheim: How to Unlock Stone Building

valheim stone

The world of Valheim is one teeming with various materials you can use to craft homes, bases, weapons, tools and so much more. Initially, you’ll only be able to use wood collected from cutting down trees to make wooden items, but eventually, you’ll want to unlock Valheim stone building.

How to Get Stone

Stone can be obtained by simply checking the floor, though some places tend to be more fruitful than others. We’d recommend heading to the Meadows if you’re struggling to find any. You can also find them lying around on the floor in the woods.

Once you’ve done some resource gathering, you can head over to your workbench and craft a stone axe for 5 wood and 4 stone. This can then be used to chop down trees when you’re gathering wood.

How to Unlock Valheim Stone Building

To unlock stone building, you’ll need to get a Stone Cutter. The Stone Cutter is a bench similar to the workbench which allows you to create stone structures such as walls, floors, archways, and floor tiles. These can be found from your build menu once you’ve built the cutter.

To build a Stone Cutter, you’ll need Iron. This can be mined from Muddy Scrap Piles, which can be found in the Sunken Crypts in the Swamp. These are locked, but after beating the first boss — The Elder — you’ll have the Swamp Key which will unlock them.

After you’ve got iron ore from Muddy Scrap Piles, smelt them down at a Smelter to get Iron Ingots. Once you’ve got two Iron Ingots, you should hopefully have what you need to make a Stone Cutter in Valheim. The required materials are:

  • 10 Wood
  • 4 Stone
  • 2 Iron

Once you’ve built the Stone Cutter, you’ll unlock stone building, allowing you to upgrade from that old wooden shack, among other things.

That’s everything you need to know to unlock Valheim stone building. For more tips and tricks, head on over to our guide wiki, search for Twinfinite, or check out more of our coverage on the game below.
