Is There Controller Support in Valheim?

If you want to play Valheim but don’t want to have to use a keyboard and mouse, you’ll be glad to hear that you don’t have to. There is controller support in the game, it’s just not as fully featured as you might like.

According to Valheim’s Steam page, the game features “Partial Controller Support.” That being said, there haven’t been that many reports of players struggling with it. A few people have reported issues with connecting DualSense controllers, but problems seem to be limited anyway.

The only limitations seem to be more on the bug side, or to do with the fact that the game is in early access on Steam, rather than oversights. For example, some players on Reddit are reporting that “the button mapping can’t really be changed. You can switch them to something else, but they appear to keep the original mapping AND the new mapping.”

Issues like that, and inconsistencies with things like dropping items or deconstructing things, will likely be fixed as the game continues its journey towards full release. All in all though, you shouldn’t have too many problems playing Valheim with a controller. The controller support is general quite good, even if not quite the same experience as playing with keyboard and mouse.

That’s everything you need to know about Valheim’s controller support. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to check out our wiki guide or search for Twinfinite.
