In this guide, we’ll talk you through how to get the Mending enchantment in Minecraft so you can reap its benefits.

How to Get Mending Enchantment in Minecraft

Mending is classed as a ‘treasure enchantment’ which means it cannot be created with the use of an Enchanting Table.

A treasure enchantment can only be obtained in the following ways:

  • Equipment or Books from Chest Loot
  • Fishing
  • Enchanted Book Trades & Bartering
  • Dropped by a Raiding Illager

First and foremost, players can find books or equipment that have Minecraft’s Mending enchantment from chests that spawn around the world. These are usually hidden in temples, mines, or other hidden areas. As each world is procedurally-generated, there are no specific directions we can give you to find these, you’ll need to simply explore and track them down yourself.

Books and other items with the Mending enchantment can also be fished out of the water with a Fishing Rod. You can increase your chances of getting an enchanted item out of the water by using a Fishing Rod with the ‘Luck of the Sea’ enchantment.

Another way of obtaining Minecraft’s Mending enchantment is by trading and bartering with a Librarian villager. This will require that you have a lot of Emeralds to trade for them, so make sure you’ve got a good supply of these in your inventory.

Finally, there’s a chance that you can pick up an enchanted book from a raiding mob. Specifically, it’s the pillagers and vindicators that have a chance of dropping an enchanted book. The problem is, there’s no guarantee of which enchantment it will be.
