How to Beat Rued in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Rued is one of the more challenging early bosses in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and not just because you’re likely still getting a handle on the game’s controls and mechanics.

Joined by his pet wolf in combat, he can easily flank you with devastating attacks while you’re busy dealing with another target. Not only that, but he can soak up damage like it’s nothing, forcing you to hammer him with everything you’ve got again and again until he finally goes down.

This may leave you thinking that your only option is a test of endurance. While this is technically viable, there is a faster method you can use to turn the boss fight into less of an ordeal.

To do so though, you’ll need to make some preparations; namely, by stocking up on fire arrows. These can be obtained from merchants at your settlement if you don’t have a solid stock of them, so head back there and top yourself off if needed.

Once you’ve got a decent number of flaming projectiles, head into the boss fight.

How to Make the Rued Boss Fight Easier

Once the boss fight with Rued starts in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you’ll want to focus all of your attention on his pet wolf.

Though it might not hit as hard as Rued, it can be a pain to deal with it while also trying to take down its owner at the same time. Likewise, it’s much faster and can close in on you most anywhere in the battle area, making it difficult to find room to breath when it’s still alive.

As such, taking it out quickly will make your life way easier. Pay careful attention to its attack patterns, and when it leaves itself open, unload on it with attacks. Focus on light attacks whenever possible to make sure you hit it, and should it leave itself wide open, throw out a heavy attack or two for more damage.

Before long, it should go down. Once it does, you can turn your attention to Rued and start using those fire arrows you stocked up on. They’ll each do decent damage to him, and he won’t pose much of a threat to you as long as you keep your distance.

Keep peppering him with flaming projectiles, and if he’s still standing once you run out, finish him off with a few melee attacks. Before long, he should fall, and you shouldn’t be any worse for wear.
