Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Is There Cross-Gen Compatibility? Answered

cross-gen, valhalla

Just as was the case back in 2013 with Black Flag, Ubisoft’s hugely popular open-world franchise is helping to kick-off the next console generation. This time around, though, there’s a new smart delivery/free upgrade system that is going to prove very handy for those wanting to play the game on both old and new hardware. Here’s what you need to know about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and its cross-gen compatibility.

Is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Cross-Gen Compatible?

Yes, your Assassin’s Creed Valhalla save file from your PS4 or Xbox One playthrough will accessible to you after you have upgraded to either a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S.

However, keep in mind that the save file is only valid between consoles of the same family. Meaning, for example, you can’t play Valhalla on Xbox One and then continue your progress on PS5. Nor could you play on PS4 and then continue on Xbox Series X/S. It must be PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S.

It’s also important to note that if you’re wanting to take advantage of the Smart Deliver/free upgrade feature, you will need to make sure you are doing so between the same versions of the game. For example, if you are playing Valhalla physically on PS4, you cannot upgrade to a digital PS5. It must be the disc version.

More information on the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s cross-gen compatibility can be found over on Ubisoft’s support page.

As for transferring save data between current and next-gen hardware, that is handled manually via the use of an ethernet cable from console-to-console for both systems. By transferring your data from one HDD to the other, your PS5/Xbox Series X will then have your progress stored and ready for you to resume playing.

That is everything you should need to know about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and its cross-gen compatibility. For more useful tips and guides on the game, search Twinfinite, or check out our guide wiki.
