Watch Dogs Legion: Beginner Tips & Tricks

Watch Dogs Legion is finally getting released this week, and with the new element of being able to play as NPC in the game being such a radical change for the series, we’ve put together a short list of beginner tips to help get you started.

Your First Operative Doesn’t Really Matter

After playing through the tutorial level in Watch Dogs Legion, the game will start proper and you’ll have the option of choosing your first playable character. To be completely honest, all of them are kind of crappy, with maybe the exception of one or two that come with abilities that can aid you in the early hours of the game.

You may want to consider picking the character who takes slightly less damage in combat, or the one who can decrease heat level faster than normal. The early hours of the game can be a little rough as you’re still getting used to combat, and since there’s no way to actively restore your health, it can be a good idea to go for the character who decreases damage taken.

In short, though, you don’t really have to worry too much about who you pick as your first operative in Watch Dogs Legion. The early missions will guide you towards getting new operatives to expand your roster, and you’ll have a lot of characters at your disposal.

Fly the Cargo Drone Everywhere

One of the early missions in the game has you recruit a construction worker to DedSec, and they’ll actually provide you with one of the best abilities in the game: the ability to summon a cargo drone anywhere.

The cargo drone can lift and drop explosive barrels, you can climb on top of it and basically fly across the entire city (albeit kinda slowly), and it’s just a very useful tool for reaching high places and finding new infiltration points in restricted areas.

Liberate Boroughs ASAP

Just like any other Ubisoft open world game, Watch Dogs Legion contains a few boroughs that need to be liberated by increasing their Defiance meters. If you take a look at your map, you’ll see that the city is divided into a few different districts, and you can liberate them by completing quests within that district.

Completing all the required quests will unlock a final borough quest that completely maxes out the Defiance meter, and you’ll get quite a few rewards. The biggest reward is the addition of a skilled operative to your roster; these are much more powerful than your regular recruits, and they come with truly unique and distinct abilities that will make the game easier.

In addition to that, liberating more boroughs will also unlock more gadgets in your Tech tree, including the ability to disable combat and turret drones.

Get the Invisibility Cloak First

To make the game easier, you’re going to want to unlock new weapons and gadgets in the tech tree. The weapons actually aren’t all that important; you can largely get by with a pistol and the SMG, and maybe unlock the grenade launcher as well if you want some heavy firepower.

However, the gadgets are what you really want. The invisibility skill is cheap, and it’s pretty much the best first option you can go for in the game. By tapping R1 or RB, you’ll go completely invisible for a few seconds, which makes stealth a lot easier. The ability will also cause enemies to completely lose track of you even when they’re in pursuit.

It can be upgraded with even more Tech Points later on, increasing the duration and also decreasing the decay rate as you move around.

Get Your Skilled Operatives as They Pop Up

Finally, one important thing to note is that liberating boroughs isn’t the only way to get skilled operatives in Watch Dogs Legion. They’ll also occasionally pop up on your map as green icons, and you can head over to them, do a mission, and recruit them for your roster.

However, they’ll only be available for an hour, so you need to grab them as soon as you see them. Bagley will inform you whenever a skilled operative is available for recruitment, so make sure to check your map whenever his dialogue pops up.

Sometimes, certain events need to happen as well for them to spawn. For instance, the first time you fail a mission and your operative gets sent to the hospital, the Paramedic operative should become recruitable on your map, so be on the lookout for those as well.

And those are all the beginner tips we have for those looking to jump into Watch Dogs Legion. Be sure to search for Twinfinite or check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
