“A Legendary Tree of a Legendary Three”

The first step of catching Galarian Zapdos is to initiate the “A Legendary Tree of a Legendary Three” quest. Start by heading to Ballimere Lake in the Crown Tundra region.

At the lake, there will be a large red tree bearing red fruit. All you have to do is walk up to this tree, and it will trigger a cutscene. Sit back and relax as you watch the three legendary birds: Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres battle with each other before flying off in separate directions.

This begins the quest, and you can now track down the birds to find and catch them. All three are in different locations and have separate requirements for getting them.

How to Catch Galarian Zapdos in Pokemon Sword & Shield

As long as the quest has been initiated, Galarian Zapdos can be found running around the original Wild Area from Sword & Shield’s base game. It will be located anywhere in that area running on the ground.

Your job is to run or ride your bike up to it to catch it. Galarian Zapdos is super fast, but it pauses to take breaks, which gives you a chance to catch up. You might need to corner it in order to run into it to start the encounter.

It will be level 70 with a very low catch rate, so come prepared with plenty of strong Pokemon and Poke Balls.

We recommend using a Quick Ball on the first throw. If it pops out of that, weaken it and use a status effect such as sleep or paralysis on it. Dusk Balls work well if its nighttime, and Timer Balls are good if the battle has had many turns.

It might take several tries, but you’ll eventually be able to catch it. That’s everything you need to know about starting the “A Legendary Tree of a Legendary Three” quest and how to catch Galarian Zapdos in Pokemon Sword & Shield.
