For the first time in a Pikmin game, Pikmin 3 allows you to switch between not just two but a whopping three playable characters. Instead of playing as Olimar from the first two Pikmin, we’re introduced to Alph, Brittany, and Charlie. At first, you will play as Alph but then you’ll eventually gather the other explorers. Knowing how to switch characters in Pikmin 3 will prove to be beneficial for your daily fruit-gathering missions.
How to Switch Characters in Pikmin 3
If you have access to more than one character in Pikmin 3, switching between them is super easy and simple. You just need to hold the Y button to open up a small menu and then you will see the face of the other character on the left d-pad button. Press that and you will now be controlling someone else.
If the person is in your party, you won’t be able to switch to them at all unless you separate them from your group by throwing them somewhere. To throw your friends, just hit the L and R buttons to scroll to their face and then hit A to throw them away from you.
Now you can switch to them and you might as well throw some Pikmin their way too so you can all share from the total amount. If you want to join back together and explore as a single group, just hold B to signal your partner and they’ll follow right behind you.
