Borderlands 3’s free next-gen upgrade, which adds 4K, 60FPS visuals, and a four-player local co-op mode, is set to launch in tandem with the upcoming hardware. That’s Nov. 10 for Xbox Series X/S and Nov. 12 and 19 for those on PS5, depending on the region.

Randy Pitchford, Executive Producer and Founder of Gearbox Entertainment said in a statement over on 2k Games’ site today:

“Borderlands is a ground-breaking, record-setting, critically acclaimed franchise where millions upon millions of gamers have experienced one-of-a-kind gameplay, mayhem, and fun across multiple generations of gaming technology. “

With Borderlands 3 continuing to grow and launching this November on next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles, there has never been a better time to jump in and join the fun.”

Transitioning from one version to the next sounds very simple, indeed. The game should be available to download or slot into your disc drive immediately, with save progress and add-on content able to ported from one system to another.

In a previous report, Gearbox explained it was also set to offer new skill trees and implement full crossplay at some point in the near future, too.

Borderlands 3 players not upgrading to next-gen hardware can still look forward to a local co-op update that offers split-screen action for two players, which arrives on the same dates for Xbox One and PS4.

Today’s announcement is signed off with a pledge to share more news in an upcoming special episode of The Borderlands Show premiering Oct. 29 at 12 PM EST over on the Borderlands Twitch channel.
