Play the Campaign First
Things to Know Before Playing Marvel’s Avengers
If you’re someone who really cares deeply about the story of Marvel’s Avengers and the events that occur in the campaign, then we highly recommend that you skip the mulitplayer section until you wrap up the single-player mode.
There are major spoilers to be found in those co-op missions, so it’s best to wait before you go and link up with your buddies to Hulk Smash bad guys in the face.
But, if you don’t care what happens to these Marvel characters, like Kamala Khan and Iron Man, then you should be OK to start either mode however you please.
There’s No Difficulty Trophy
When you first boot up Marvel’s Avengers, there will be several options for you to choose from when it comes to the difficulty level. If you just want to experience the narrative and not have to worry about having the best gear equipped or whatever, choose the easier option.
You can make it harder too if you want the challenge, but the good part about all of this is that it won’t affect any trophies or achievements. So if you’re going after a Platinum trophy, for example, you will not have to worry about beating the game on the hardest difficulty.
Yay for accessibility!
The Story Is Not Connected To the MCU at All
I’m so sorry to tell you this, MCU fan, but the narrative in this Marvel’s Avengers game is in no way, shape, or form tied to the live-action Marvel films that release in theaters.
The Iron Man, Thor, Hulk (and everyone else) that you see in this game are not voice acted by any of the Hollywood talents that play the roles on the silver screen. Any of the events that occurred in Endgame for example never happened in this alternate story but that’s not a bad thing entirely.
This original storyline told by Crystal Dynamics is loosely based on the comics but because it’s not tied to the MCU, it allows the writers to experiment more with the story and provide new plot lines and characters that never existed in the MCU.
This also opens the doors for more post-launch DLC characters, which we’ll talk about next.
Hawkeye, Spider-Man, and Other DLC Heroes Aren’t Here Yet
Yes, Crystal Dynamics will be releasing a couple of post-launch DLC heroes for Marvel’s Avengers that are completely free for those that own the game. These characters will have their own mission and moveset of course, and the DLC will continue to push the entire narrative of the game forward.
But it’s worth mentioning that none of these characters have been released just yet. So far, it’s been announced that Kate Bishop (Hawkeye), Clint Barton (Hawkeye) and Spider-Man will be making their way into the game, but the first one won’t be coming until sometime in late October.
It’s Not an Open-World Game
Most of the missions that you’ll go on in Marvel’s Avengers, especially in the single-player campaign, are very linear compared to other action-adventure titles of the same caliber.
You’ll be funneled through a fairly straight path with not much else to explore but there are moments when you’re given the freedom to move around more expansive areas.
Marvel’s Avenger in no way should be described as an open-world video game and that might prove to be disappointing for some, but given how cinematic and well-done the narrative is, it makes sense why the game wouldn’t let you explore everywhere you would like to.
