Things to Do First in Marvel’s Avengers

Just like any AAA title this generation, Marvel’s Avengers has an update or two you’ll need to download before you can use its network features. On PS4, the day-one update appears to have just landed at 8 GB, which shouldn’t take too long for most to download.

Now that you know it’s coming, prepare ahead of time and maybe have it download overnight or while you’re at work if your internet download speed is slow.

Once you’ve got that out of the way, you’re free to enjoy the entirety of Marvel’s Avengers, be it the single-player campaign, or the multiplayer missions.

Play Through the Campaign

When you reach the main menu you’ll be greeted with the options to boot up the single-player campaign or start diving into the Avengers Initiative multiplayer component of the game. While you may have picked up the game to assemble your own squad of Avengers with your friends, if you’re spoiler-conscious, you’ll want to play through the campaign first.

That’s because the Avengers Initiative section of the game contains spoilers for the single-player campaign. The good news is, the campaign is pretty fun and serves as a good tutorial for the game, allowing you to get to grips with each of the heroes for a substantial amount of time.

Complete the campaign and then dive into Avengers Initiative once you’ve graduated.

Assemble Your Avengers Strike Team

Now that you’re ready to take on the Avengers Initiative, you’ll want to assemble a strike team of your own. After all, everyone knows that kicking bad guy butt, like most things, is more enjoyable when you’re doing it with friends.

Having more friends also means you’re less dependent on the AI to help you complete a mission. You’ll be able to finish them faster, grind out more loot as a result, and be able to take on tougher challenges sooner. Avengers, assemble!

Choose Your Main

If you’re going to be the best bunch of Avengers the world ever did see, you’ll need to make the most of every last one of your superheroes abilities and attacks. That means spending the time grinding out missions to get powerful gear, reach Hero Level 50, and unlock all the skills your points will afford you.

All of this takes time, though, and some serious dedication to the grind. Focusing on one Hero from the very beginning can save you a ton of time, but make sure you communicate with friends to ensure there’s no overlap.

If you want to take on the tougher challenges, it’s also worth considering team synergies within the six Avengers that are available, to help maximize the team’s efficiency.

By combining various characters with different complementing abilities, you can make a far more ferocious strike team, than one heavily reliant on aerial superiority, for example.

Get Leveling Them Up

Now that you’ve got your main sorted, it’s time to hit the grind. Play through the campaign to get an initial bit of experience and familiarity with your main before hitting the Avengers Initiative and letting the XP roll in.

Play on your own, complete the Daily and Weekly challenges to earn more XP and play with your friends so you can unlock the full arsenal of abilities and attacks at your disposal.

Experiment in Photo Mode

While some of the character models still look a little awkward, some of the environments are gorgeous backdrops for some of the chaotic, explosive action that awaits in Marvel’s Avengers.

But when you’re about to pull off an Ultimate Heroic ability and obliterate 10 enemies in the blink of an eye, don’t forget to use the photo mode. If you catch it just right, you can come away with some incredible-looking shots.

Get Yourself a Bad-Ass Outfit

No, no Hawkeye isn’t in the game just yet, but he will be over the coming weeks. Doesn’t he look bad-ass though? Wouldn’t it be great if you could make your favorite superhero look even cooler than their default?

Well the excellent news is, you can! The not-so-excellent news is that each outfit has different requirements to unlock. Some are unlocked through campaign progression, others by reaching a certain Hero level, and others from the Avengers Initiative.

Pick out your favorite and get grinding towards it. There’s no better way to show your prowess in preventing crime than with a snazzy get-up!
