Super Mario 3D All Stars is finally here, and with it another chance to play through some of the iconic character’s best games. This includes Super Mario Sunshine, and while older players will know exactly what to do, you may be confused as to how to proceed at times if you’re new to the experience, especially when it comes to figuring out how to catch Shadow Mario in Super Mario Sunshine.
Fortunately, we’re here to help.
How to Catch Shadow Mario in Super Mario Sunshine
Catching Shadow Mario in Super Mario Sunshine is fairly easy once you know what to do, and applies to most any chase with him in the game.
After collecting a certain number of Shine Sprites, you’ll be notified that Shadow Mario is causing trouble somewhere on the map of Delfina Plaza. Once you go there, he’ll make a break for it, and you’ll need to chase him down and spray him with water to nail him down and stop his shenanigans.
This is done by holding down the ZR button while running. Doing so will fire out a stream from your FLUDD directly in front of you, with the arc extending should you jump and fire as you’re falling back down to earth.
As you might expect though, Shadow Mario won’t run in a straight line away from you. He’ll run along a loop that changes based on what chase segment you’re playing, and most all of them have tons of turns or sudden changes to keep you from drenching him easily.
They’re far from impossible to memorize though, and after a few run-throughs you should get a good idea of when and how to hit him. Keep at it, and before long you should have Shadow Mario soaked and sorted whenever he tries to cause trouble.
Plus, as a bonus, you’ll receive a Shine Sprite every time you catch him.
That’s all there is to know about how to catch Shadow Mario in Super Mario Sunshine. For more on all of the games included in Super Mario 3D All Stars, check out our review to see what we thought of the collection as a whole.
