Even if you’re used to free-to-play games with gacha systems, there’s a lot of different nomenclature and resources/materials/currencies to get your head around at the start of each new one, and miHoYo’s latest action-RPG is no exception. Here’s how to get Constellations and what they do in Genshin Impact.
What Constellations Are in Genshin Impact
Constellations are a tier of progression available to each different character in Genshin Impact, offering special new abilities and/or buffs of existing abilities.
To create the most powerful build of any character requires you to level their Constellation to the max. But how do you do you actually go about doing that given that Constellations are seemingly locked and unavailable?
How to Get Constellations in Genshin Impact
As you may have noticed either yourself or in the image above, using Constellations requires a specific resource. But Genshin Impact never really explains what that resource is or how to get it until you basically stumble across the answer yourself.
As it turns out, the resource is actually the duplicate characters you receive as rewards/loot from Wishes (the gacha mechanic) you have made.
For example, if you already own the character Noel and then receive another Noel in a Wish then you will have x1 of the resource required to unlock a Constellation.
Therefore, Constellations aren’t all that F2P friendly given that to max out a Constellation tier you’re going to have to make a lot of Wishes, which as we’ve established in previous guides like how to get more characters requires a lot of Primogems.
Obviously, you are only going to have a surplus of Primogems if you A) spend a lot of hours playing the game, or B) spend money on Genesis Crystals, the premium currency in the game that can be used to buy Primogems.
Now, that’s not to say that Constellations are locked away from F2P players, it’s just that unless you focus on one or two characters you’ll likely arrive at Genshin Impact’s end game long before reaching the max Constellations for most of your characters.
So, if wasn’t obvious already: focus on maxing out on or two characters only! Don’t take on too many projects at once — good advice even for the whales out there.
Best Constellations
We won’t be running through a full list of best Constellations here, but as some examples of ones that are well worth saving for, Barabara’s Dedicating Everything to You automatically revives fallen characters when not on the field, as well as regenerating all characters HP to 100%. Pretty impressive!
As we’ve explained our best characters guide, can also improve many four-star characters like Xiangling almost to the potential of a five-star character by maxing her Constellations. That’s because her Pyro elemental abilities receive a massive buff while also offering other characters useful Pyro debuff. Therefore, she ends up being a big asset to virtually any party composition.
That should be everything you need to know about what Constellations are and how to get them in Genshin Impact. For more useful tips and guides on the game, be sure to check out our wiki page.
