All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

every new monster confirmed for monster hunter rise so far

During a Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase today (or should I say Monster Hunter direct), Capcom unveiled a brand-new Monster Hunter title exclusively for the Nintendo Switch called Monster Hunter Rise.

It features similar action-RPG gameplay that MH fans will feel familiar with but thanks to the new Wirebug mechanic, players will be able to pull themselves toward objects for fast traversal and it can even be used to pull off combos during monster encounters.

Rise will also have brand-new monsters added to the game as well as many fan-favorites from past titles. Here are the monsters confirmed so far for Monster Hunter Rise.

Almudron

The Almudron is a new monster that’s a bit like a catfish.

It uses mud for its attacks by slinging it at enemies and can spray a gold liquid from its tail that acts like quicksand underneath its target.

Somnacanth

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

The Somnacanth is a brand-new monster for the series and resembles a sort of creepy mermaid monster. It can shoot out sleep powder from a gross organ on its neck, so hunters need to be prepared, or else they’ll find themselves taking a forced nap, which can be annoying.

This beast doesn’t like when folks trespass its territory, so once you spot it, get ready for it to be very aggressive.

Bishaten

Bishaten seems to be a hybrid mix of a monkey, a bird, a bat, or something. It can hang off of high places like trees and toss fruit at hunters, causing them to take damage and lose their footing.

That long tail of this beast will surely cause hunters some trouble, so getting that cut off should be prioritized during quests.

Great Wroggi (Returning)

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

The Great Wroggi is back baby, and this dinosaur/snake creature can expel poison from that sac around its head. But this monster is just a different kind of Great Jaggi, so it shouldn’t pose too much of a problem during hunts. It’s definitely one of those beginner monsters that can be taken down easily by yourself.

Royal Ludroth (Returning)

Royal Ludroth makes a return to the series and it brings along its spongy outer layer and its signature water-based attacks. Ludroth is typically a starter monster that helps you get to grip with the game’s mechanics and controls, and it’s very adorable when it rolls around on the ground.

Just be careful because once a Royal Ludroth gets wet, it can use the liquid to recover, so don’t let it get close to lakes or other bodies of water.

Magnamalo

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

Magnamalo is the flagship beast for Monster Hunter Rise that is a very terrifying Fanged Wyvern that “hunts its prey with relentless malice.” And judging from the purple energy emanating from the monster in the reveal trailer, it seems that this might be a Dragon-type Wyvern.

Capcom didn’t want to share too many details on the monster just yet but you can expect to see more of this bad boy during the gameplay presentation at Tokyo Game Show 2020 later this month.

Aknosom

Aknosom is a big ol’ Bird Wyvern that can shoot fireballs out of its mouth right towards your hunter. It can also change the shape of its crest to attack hunters and adapt to the current combat situation.

If it gets a good hit on you, it can potentially knock you straight across the map, which won’t be fun at all if you’re in the middle of a sick combo or something.

And according to the official Monster Hunter Rise site, it’s “fiercely territorial, and whenever it finds intruders, it spreads its wings and unfolds the eye-like crest on its head to terrifying effect.”

Great Izuchi

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

Next up is the Great Izuchi, which is a Bird Wyvern that usually travels around the map with three smaller Izuchi creatures. In the reveal trailer, we can even see a synchronized attack from several of them that just looks extremely irritating.

Since Monster Hunter Rise will have four-player online play, having friends with you during this fight to distract the smaller enemies will probably be recommended.

Its scythe-like tail will surely cause heavy damage if you’re not too careful so chopping that sucker off with sharp weapons will definitely give players the upper hand against this Wyvern.

Tetranadon

And the last monster that was shown during the presentation was this amphibious alligator/frog/dragon creation named Tetranadon. It’ll eat everything in sight, including gravel, to grow bigger, unleasing an attack on hunters.

Even though it’s slower while its belly is full, its attacks are much more powerful and can really knock down that health bar of yours. It can also jump super high into the air and basically perform a ground pound, so that’s something to be on the lookout for if you don’t want to turn into a pancake.

Arzuros (Returning)

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

Arzuros is one of the many returning monsters that will be coming to Monster Hunter Rise, first introduced in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. The monster resembles some type of bear mixed with a scaly dragon and is a Water-element type and it’s susceptible to Fire, Ice, and Thunder.

It’s known to use its powerful claws to attack hunters and it’s very good at moving quickly around the map, so heavy weapon users might have trouble bringing it down fast.

Goss Harag

The Goss Harag is a new monster that can be found in the snowy plains. It has a thick fur coat to keep it warm in the ice-cold conditions, and inhales the cold air to freeze its body fluids and spray them at targets.

When hostile, it’ll turn red and use its ice-cold breath to make an ice blade on each of its arms.

Rakna-Kadaki

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

Arachnophobes look away! Rakna-Kadaki is essentially a fire spider monster that’ll use its webs to trap you in-place before unleashing burning gas to finish you off.

To make matters worse, Rakna-Kadaki also carries its offspring on its back and calls them to arms when it gets in a battle. Just to give you one more thing to think about!

Anjanath (Returning)

A Brute Wyvern-type monster, the Anjanath more or less looks like a big ol’ T-Rex. It returns having featured in Monster Hunter: World and its Iceborne expansion.

The Anjanath can be found patrolling the Ancient Forest in search of Aptonoth. This monster will attack anything it sees without warning, so be prepared.

Barioth (Returning)

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

Barioth is a flying wyvern-type monster and has previously featured in Monster Hunter World’s Iceborne expansion.

It’s an ice-type creature which uses its tail and front legs to dish out spiked attacks, and uses its ice breath to blow a tornado of frost your way. It also has a leaping attack you’ll want to watch out for.

Barroth (Returning)

This water-type Brute Wyvern monster has featured in the series a bunch of times before. Left to its own devices, it’ll seek out ants to feed on and will mark out their territory with mud.

Their main attack is a charging attack where it uses its thick skull ram its target into oblivion.

Basarios (Returning)

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

The Basarios makes its return in Monster Hunter: Rise, complete with its stone-like scaley skin. It’s a smaller flying wyvern creature which burrows underground, mimicking rocks and ambushing unsuspecting prey.

Be wary of any random rocks you stumble upon, it could be a Besarios in disguise!

Chameleos (Returning)

Chameleos is another long-running fan-favorite monster returns in Monster Hunter: Rise. As its name suggests, this elder dragon is essentially a big ol’ chameleon.

When it camouflages itself, players will be unable to see or lock-on to it. It can also steal items off you like potions using its long tongue from afar.

Diablos (Returning)

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

Another long-running monster in the series is the Diablos, which makes its return in Monster Hunter: Rise.

Most often found in the desert, this flying wyvern-type monster uses its massive horns to charge at foes and will use a loud scream to stun foes for long periods of time. Better bring some earmuffs!

Great Baggi (Returning)

The Great Baggi is another bird wyvern returning to Monster Hunter: Rise, having previously featured in MH3 and MH3: Ultimate.

Its main attack comes in the form of its Sleep Attack where it’ll try and stun you with a tranquilizing fluid before laying into you. Smaller Baggis also accompany it and will gang up on you, so be careful!

Jyuratodus (Returning)

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

Having debuted in Monster Hunter World, the Jyuratodus returns in Monster Hunter: Rise.

Its a piscine wyvern-type monster which uses mud to trap its prey before it begins attacking them. Be sure to use Watermoss or attack the monster when it covers itself in mud, as this acts as an additional protective layer.

Khezu (Returning)

This terrifying flying wyvern-type monster returns in Monster Hunter: Rise. It lives in icy regions and has a weakness of fire, so bring any fire-type weapons with you for the ride.

Kulu-Ya-Ku (Returning)

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

Having first debuted in Monster Hunter World, the Kulu-Ya-Ku makes another appearance in Monster Hunter: Rise.

It’s a bird wyvern-type creature, and steals the eggs from other nests in forests and wastelands. You’ll want to keep an eye out for its jump attacks as these can deal huge damage.

Lagombi (Returning)

The Lagombi only ever featured in Monster Hunter Generations: Ultimate, but now its coming to Monster Hunter: Rise, too.

This fanged beast-type monster will use snowballs to try and trap hunters that come for it, before using sliding and jump attacks to deal damage and finish you off.

Mizutsune (Returning)

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

This leviathan originally showed up in Monster Hunter Generations, but is also bringing its water and bubble-based combat to Monster Hunter: Rise.

This creature can also secret a weird foam that allows it to slide on the ground and attack its prey. So, in other words, it slip n’ slides its way to battle. We rate that.

Nargacuga (Returning)

The Nargacuga needs little introduction, having appeared in many games in the series prior to Monster Hunter: Rise.

It’s essentially a big ol’ poison bat creature. It’s incredibly fast and agile, meaning you’ll want to use lock-on at all costs. It’ll use its tail to deliver hammer blows to its targets.

Pukei-Pukei (Returning)

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

A flying wyvern known to possess poisonous toxins in its body. It’s been spotted storing scatternuts in its mouth or tail, coating them with poison and spitting them out at threats.

The Pukei-Pukei uses poison-based attacks to slowly chip away at hunters’ health over time. You’ll want to bring any thunder-type weapons or items to this fight to quickly take care of this big lizard boi.

Rajang (Returning)

This fanged beast-type monster originally featured in Monster Hunter 2, but it’ll be returning to our screens in Monster Hunter: Rise.

These things are lethal normally, but get even more formidable when they enter their ‘rampage’ mode and turn yellow. They’ll use wide, sweeping attacks to try and hit you from afar.

Rathalos (Returning)

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

This flying-wyvern type creature has featured in every Monster Hunter game to-date.

It drops down from the skies and tries to deal damage with its posionous claws and fiery breath. You better get your running shoes ready for this one!

Rathian (Returning)

Another frequent flyer in the Monster Hunter series makes a return in Monster: Hunter Rise, the Rathian is fire-type flying wyvern. It’ll use its poison tails and powerful legs to try and deal damage to you.

If you want to get one to appear, look around for its nest and take its egg. Soon enough the Rathian will be hovering over you, ready to protect its young.

Tigrex (Returning)

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

A fan-favorite, the Tigrex originally appeared in Monster Hunter Portable 2, before returning in Monster Hunter World.

It’ll also show up in Rise, bringing its quick rush attacks and deafening roars to the world.

Tobi-Kadachi (Returning)

A Fanged Wyvern that flies among the trees of the Ancient Forest. Its penchant to brush against the ground and the trees as it moves around builds up static electricity within its fur.

The Tobi-Kadachi can charge itself up, dispersing electric charges through its fur, dealing damage to any hunter in the surrounding area. You’ll want to bring water to rain on its parade and give it a shock!

Volvidon (Returning)

All Monsters in Monster Hunter Rise

This creature, covered in thick red shells tough enough to withstand magma, is back to ruin your day. Its rounded body is perfect for rolling across hot surfaces, and its long tongue is ideal for capturing prey. Its saliva emits a paralyzing toxin that should be avoided.

The Volvidon is a fanged beast which will roll up into a ball and try and run you over at high speeds. It also has a long tongue which can grab or beat away a target.

It can also use a stink cloud defensive attack which deals the ‘Stench’ status effect, preventing you from using consumables and recovering.

Zinogre (Returning)

Zinogre is a thunder-type fanged wyvern that originally featured in Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate. It most recently appeared as part of the Monster Hunter World: Iceborn expansion.

Zinogre will use its thunderous attacks to zap you in an instant or try and stamp you into the ground. Your best opportunity to deal damage to it is when it begins howling, indicating it’s charging up.
