Publisher Epic Games is today rolling out Mega Drop, a new initiative that permanently discounts Fortnite V-Bucks and other real-world offers by up to 20%.
Console and PC players will now see new, cheaper prices moving forward, while those on mobile will have the option to “direct pay” Epic Games for a cheaper price. The latter is particularly interesting considering that App stores like Google and iOS’ don’t typically allow companies to bypass their storefront taxes.
Today’s blog post from Epic explains:
“Currently, when using Apple and Google payment options, Apple and Google collect a 30% fee, and the up to 20% price drop does not apply. If Apple or Google lower their fees on payments in the future, Epic will pass along the savings to you.”
As a token of goodwill, anybody who has purchased V-Bucks within the past 30 days is entitled to a refund on the amount they would have otherwise saved when purchasing them from today onward.
As for the Support a Creator rates, they remain the same; for every 2,000 V-Bucks spent, they’ll still receive $1.00 USD. Still, given that you’ll be able to purchase more V-Bucks for less, creators will earn more in turn.
Today’s Mega Drop news follows on from Fortnite’s big Joy Ride update last week, which introduced driveable cars to the game for the first time.
