Ghost of Tsushima: How to Start New Game Plus

When you’ve wrapped up Jin Sakai’s conquest against the invading Mongol forces, you’ll likely be wondering what left there is to do on the isle of Tsushima. You can go picking undiscovered flowers, pet some foxes, and make some Haiku in your own special place. New game plus is a regular staple in AAA games now, offering players the opportunity to play through the game again on a slightly tougher difficulty, with the benefit of having all their items and abilities unlocked. As such, some players may be wondering if Ghost of Tsushima has new game plus.

To start new game plus in Ghost of Tsushima, once you’ve beaten the game, go to the main menu and select the New Game Plus option that’s now made available. It’s as simple as that!

What Carries Over in Ghost of Tsushima New Game +

New Game Plus allows players to carry over the following items over from their first playthrough:

  • Techniques
  • Gear Items
  • Vanity Pieces

As a reward for starting new game plus, players will receive a new horse, and can unlock new powerful Charms as they’re normally obtained.

Ghost Flowers are also a new addition in New Game Plus, which can be exchanged with the Ghost Flower Merchant for new armor dyes and other vanity items.

No. Ghost of Tsushima does not have new game plus.

Instead, once the credits are out of the way, you’ll have the opportunity to ‘Continue’ your save, taking you back into the game world so you’re free to explore. Your other option is to start a new game entirely, but you won’t carry any of your items, abilities or progress over.

The reason for this likely comes down to the fact that Ghost of Tsushima isn’t an RPG. That means there’s no real leveling system to work your way through, and as such you’d simply start with a ton of special attacks and abilities that’d make things far too easy.

There’s always a chance that this could change, as we’ve seen Sony first-party studios do in the past with games like Spider-Man and Days Gone. Exactly how new game plus would work in Ghost of Tsushima or when, if ever, it will arrive still remain to be seen.

As soon as we hear anything more on new game plus in Ghost of Tsushima, we’ll be sure to update this post and let you know. For now, though, there’s no official word on whether this will ever come to the game.

That’s all there is to know about new game plus in Ghost of Tsushima. Head over to our Ghost of Tsushima wiki for more helpful guides.
