Reshiram was the first of the Tao Trio to make it into Pokemon GO raids. Now, it’s time for Zekrom to take over for a couple of weeks. You better gather up some friends and counters to follow along with this Zekrom raid guide to stand a chance against this Legendary Pokemon.
Pokemon GO Zekrom Raid Time
The Deep Black Pokemon, Zekrom, will descend upon level-five raids starting on June 16 at 1 PM PT. You’ll have until July 1 at 1 PM PT to add Zekrom to your team.
How to Use Remote Raid Passes
If you’re just starting to use your remote raid passes for the first time, then here’s a quick breakdown of how it works for the Zekrom raid or any other raid.
From the main screen of the game tap the nearby Pokemon in the lower right. This will bring up a list of nearby Pokemon and raids. Tap the word raid near the top of the screen. Hit view to pull up the raid battle in the gym.
If you have a Remote Raid Pass, then you’ll see a pink battle button at the bottom of the screen. Tap it to join the raid battle when you’re not close enough to join the raid with a standard or premium battle pass.
Zekrom Raid Guide – Weaknesses
Zekrom is part Dragon and part Electric, so it carries the standard Dragon weaknesses (Dragon, Fairy, and Ice) as well as a Ground-type weakness. Still, Dragon-type Pokemon are gonna be the way to go for the Zekrom Raid.
Best Zekrom Raid Counters in Pokemon GO
All the counters listed here are the best options at level 35 with no dodging or friend/weather boosts. Here’s a list of the top 6 counters for the Zekrom raid in Pokemon GO:
- Zekrom (Dragon Breath/Outrage): I bet you didn’t see that one coming. Assuming the Zekrom you battle doesn’t have Dragon-type moves, sending out your very own Zekrom is your best bet. Zekrom has fantastic resistance against Electric-type moves that makes it a great choice here.
- Palkia (Dragon Tail/Draco Meteor): This is another beast of a Dragon-type Pokemon. It is technically stronger than Zekrom, but it doesn’t resist as much damage from Electric-type attacks as Zekrom does. That makes it the second-best counter for this raid.
- Reshiram (Dragon Breath/Drago Meteor): Reshiram deals out massive damage but can’t take a big beating from Outrage. Reshiram will thrive against a Zekrom with Electric-type moves or Crunch.
- Dialga (Dragon Breath/Draco Meteor): Dialga is just another Legendary Dragon with ridiculous stats and a great moveset for beating other Dragon-types. Dialga’s partial Steel-typing makes it take less damage from Dragon moves than other Pokemon of the same type. This is a solid safe option if you keep getting wiped out by Zekrom’s Outrage.
- Garchomp (Dragon Tail/Outrage): The biggest reason why Garchomp is so high on the list of Zekrom counters is due to its partial Ground-typing. It’ll take less damage from Electric-type moves while also dealing out some serious damage. It survives longer than Reshiram and Palkia, but it deals damage more slowly.
- Groudon (Dragon Tail/Earthquake): This is one of the few counters that isn’t part Dragon. Fortunately, it still has a Dragon Tail to deal some super effective damage with its fast attack. And then Earthquake will do a ridiculous amount of damage to Zekrom. Groudon might also be bulky enough to take a few charge attacks from the raid boss.
- Honorable Mentions:
- Excadrill (Mud-Slap/Drill Run)
- Mamoswine (Mud-Slap/Avalanche)
- Shadow Salamence (Dragon Tail/Outrage)
- Dragonite (Dragon Tail/Outrage)
Zekrom Raid Moveset
Zekrom has an impressive moveset that can cause plenty of issues even for experienced trainers. But the hope is that you’ll get an easy moveset in most of your battles against Zekrom. Charge Beam with Flash Cannon or Crunch will give you the easiest time. Here’s a breakdown of Zekrom’s attacks.
Fast Moves
- Dragon Breath (Dragon): This is one of the best Dragon-type fast attacks out there. This won’t signal doom for your party of Dragons, but it’s not a good start. As long as Zekrom doesn’t have Outrage paired with this, then you should be fine.
- Charge Beam (Electric): This is a good start if you have ideal counters. Anything on the list of counters will resist Electric-type attacks. From there, it’s just a matter of dealing enough damage to Zekrom before time runs out.
Charge Moves
- Outrage (Dragon): This is one where you might want to run for the hills. If you don’t have good Garchomps, Excadrills, Mamoswines, or Groudons, then this could very easily be a lost cause. It would be ideal to just brute force it with a bunch of trainers, but that’s not always possible.
- Wild Charge (Electric): Most of the best counters will resist Wild Charge. Still, you can’t take lightly a powerful Electric move that charges quickly. Again, Ground-types will survive best here. But you may need at least four or five trainers to help take down Zekrom before the timer runs out.
- Flash Cannon (Steel): Now we’re into the easier moves to survive. Flash Cannon isn’t going to do much to the top counters in this Zekrom raid guide. Don’t worry about dodging here. Just focus fully on inflicting as much damage as you can.
- Crunch (Dark): This move is going to be slightly more difficult to face than Flash Cannon, but it’s much easier than Wild Charge and Outrage. None of the counters in this Zekrom raid guide will resist Crunch, but none of them are weak to it either.
If you follow our suggestions in this Zekrom raid guide, then you should be able to add this Legendary Dragon to your team. And if there’s anything else you need to learn about Pokemon GO, then just check out our Wiki Guide for anything else you need to learn.
