Piranha Seasonality & Spawn Times

Like many other fish and insects in New Horizons, the Piranha has select seasonality and will only spawn during certain months and times of the day. We’ve listed these below for both northern and southern hemisphere islands.

  • Northern Hemisphere: June – September
  • Southern Hemisphere: December – March

During these months, the Piranha can only be caught during the hours of 9am – 4pm and then 9pm – 4am. In other words, there are two five-hour blocks in a day when the Piranha cannot be caught.

How to Catch a Piranha in Animal Crossing New Horizons

To catch a Piranha in Animal Crossing New Horizons, equip your fishing rod and go to the river on your island. You’ll want to try and catch any of the small shadow fish that you see.

The Piranha is fairly rare, so it may take a while for you to catch one. As long as you’re fishing between the hours listed above, though, you should catch one eventually.

Remember you can always use Fishing Bait to force a fish to spawn wherever you use it.

Piranha Sell Price

The Piranha can be sold at Nook’s Cranny for 2,500 Bells.

If CJ is visiting your island, he will buy any Piranha you have for 3,750 Bells.
