It’s worth keeping in mind that before you have to maintain that 5-star rating, you’re going to need to get your island to that point. You can check out our island rating guide for plenty of tips and tricks.

Maintaining a 5-Star Island in Animal Crossing New Horizons

The easiest way to maintaining your five-star island is to simply keep it as it is once Isabelle lets you know that you’ve finally achieved island perfection. In other words, don’t drop any more furniture, plant any more trees, cut down any trees, or drop trash around your island. Similarly, keep on top of any weeds that sprout up.

You can check your island’s star rating by heading to the Town Hall once you’ve upgraded it from Resident Services and speaking to Isabelle.

Select the ‘Let’s Talk Island Evals’ option and she’ll run through some feedback from island visitors. This is the best way to find out what you need to do to maintain your five-star island rating, or get it back up there if it’s dropped down to four.

In general, you need to fill up your island with placed furniture, fencing, and flowers. Avoid clutter such as dropped items, make sure you pick up weeds regularly, and try not to have too many trees or your villagers might express a fear of getting lost in the woods.

Fixing “Too Many Items Lying Around” Feedback

If Isabelle brings bad news that your island now only has a four-star rating and cites that there are too many items lying around on your island, there’s an easy way to fix this.

At this point, it’s probably safe to say that you have too many loose or dropped items on your island. For instance, dropping a piece of furniture on the ground instead of placing it properly will count it as clutter, along with DIY Recipes that you can’t store in your house. Once you surpass 15 clutter items on the island, your star rating will drop.

That’s everything you need to know about maintaining a 5 star island in Animal Crossing New Horizons. For more tips, tricks, and guides, be sure to check out our ever-expanding guide wiki, search for Twinfinite, or check out more of our coverage below.
