To open the mini map press the L2 button on your controller while you’re exploring.

Keep in mind that pressing L2 while you’re in combat will not open the mini map, and will instead pull off a combat attack or command instead.

The mini map can be a real help, allowing you to get a quick snapshot of your surroundings, identify the location of resting spots, shops, and most importantly, your main objective. Once it’s open, you can use the left analog stick to pan around it so you can plan out your route ahead. It’s all quite simple as long as you know what you’re doing.

When you’re done looking at the mini map, simply press L2 again and it’ll disappear, allowing you to continue focusing on the action that Cloud and co. find themselves getting all tangled up in.
