After a five year wait, Square Enix has finally released the hotly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Remake. It’s a full, from the ground up remake of the 1997 PS1 classic title, and is centered around the Midgar story arc from the original game. While Midgar was only a short portion of the game, it’s been greatly expanded upon in the remake, and there’s tons to do. Here’s how to get the EXP Up Materia in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
Getting the EXP Up Materia in Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Even though Final Fantasy 7 Remake is an RPG, leveling up in the story is seriously slow, and grinding enemies won’t get you very far. However, there is a way to speed up the process a little.
You’ll need to reach chapter 16 of the main story, where Cloud and gang finally infiltrates Shinra HQ. While up here, you’ll eventually find the Recreational Facility, where you can interact with the Shinra Combat Simulator. From here, you can access a variety of different training simulations to earn rewards.
One of the missions is called Three-Person Team vs. Team Ragbag, and it costs you 400 Gil to participate. This mission requires you to get through five rounds of enemies, and if you manage to clear it, you’ll obtain the EXP Up Materia as a reward.
On Normal difficulty, we were able to clear this mission with Cloud, Barret, and Tifa. Because you won’t be able to use items during the mission, it’s important to have at least one Revival Materia on someone, just in case one of your party members falls in battle. In our playthrough, we had Tifa in charge of raising members, but Barret could also be a good healer option since he’s tankier with more HP, and is less likely to fall easily.
You might also want to consider equipping the Time Materia on someone for the Haste spell. Casting Haste on Tifa helped tremendously towards the last couple fights, as she was able to build up her Chi stacks very quickly and unleash unique abilities on enemies as they got Staggered. In addition to that, since Aerith won’t be in your party during this time, consider equipping the Pray Materia on someone as well. Pray requires two ATB charges, but will heal your entire party.
Again, in our playthrough, we had Pray on Tifa since we were buffing her with Haste anyway. With Haste speeding up her ATB charge rate, she could cast Pray whenever needed.
Once you clear all five rounds, you’ll get the EXP Up Materia which increases your exp gains by 100%. You can only equip the Materia on one person, and it’ll increase their gains.
