Reported on by The Hollywood Reporter, Druckmann will be working side by side with Craig Mazin, the creator of another HBO series, Chernobyl, with the project being the first television series from PlayStation Productions.

The plot of the series will be focused on the first game that launched on the PS3 back in 2013, which was written by Druckmann, but there is the possibility that the show will even cover the events from the highly anticipated sequel, The Last of Us Part II, which is planned to launch for the PS4 on May 29.

Craig Mazin seems to be very thrilled about working with Druckmann on the script as he is apparently a big fan of the first game. He praises Neil’s storytelling abilities in a quote from The Hollywood Reporter:

“Neil Druckmann is without question the finest storyteller working in the video game medium, and The Last of Us is his magnum opus. Getting a chance to adapt this breathtaking work of art has been a dream of mine for years, and I’m so honored to do it in partnership with Neil.”

Neil is also a fan of Mazin’s work with Chernobyl and had this to say about the partnership:

“From the first time I sat down to talk with Craig I was equally blown away by his approach to narrative and his love and deep understanding of The Last of Us. With Chernobyl, Craig and HBO created a tense, harrowing, emotional masterpiece. I couldn’t think of better partners to bring the story of The Last of Us to life as a television show.”

The Hollywood Reporter did not specify when the show would be coming or if it’s going to be live-action or animated but stay tuned for more info regarding the adaptation.

There was a live-action film adaptation of The Last of Us in the works but last we’ve heard, apparently, development has not been going so smoothly.
