In a statement released via their official Twitter account on Mar. 18, the company revealed that over the past few weeks, they had been preparing to make it so that all of their team could begin working from the safety of their homes.

“We have actively been preparing by upgrading our remote working capabilities and the required infrastructure during the past few weeks, as well as doing our utmost to make this as seamless as possible for our employees, so that they can focus on their work and safety,” Remedy’s statement reads. “The majority of the studio has already transitioned into working remotely.”

“We have the responsibility of keeping our business on track and making sure that we can keep supporting our people and players in these challenging times. The health and safety of our employees and their families and the responsibility that we all carry for our society is our top priority.”

Remedy Entertainment is only the latest studio to make the transition to a remote work style for its employees amid the Coronavirus outbreak. Larger developers like Bungie have announced their transition in recent weeks, hoping to ensure the safety of their employees and slow the spread of the current pandemic.

Several large gatherings and events have also been cancelled or postponed as a result of the virus, not the least of which being E3 2020, GDC and every major competitive Pokémon gathering in the foreseeable future.

Fortunately, there are also some good stories coming out of the chaos. For proof, check out the recent announcement that iam8bit, Limited Run Games and Double Fine are teaming up to sell a limited run of physical editions of Psychonauts on PlayStation 4 to benefit those impacted by GDC’s postponement.
