How to Get Ninja and Onmyo Skill Points in Nioh 2
Nioh 2 is a game that rewards you for whatever style of play you choose, as long as you don’t constantly jump between multiple different play styles. Regularly using the same weapons or items builds proficiency, which then provides skill points. Proficiency levels can be checked in the status menu.
Using Ninja or Onmyo Items
If you obtain even one skill item from either category and continue to use it, you’ll be well on your way to earning many more skills by building Ninja and Onmyo proficiency.
Using items such as bombs, shuriken, and scrolls will eventually net you Ninja skill points. On the other hand, using amulets and talismans will do the same for Onmyo skill points. Once you unlock a skill from either tree, you must select “Ready Jutsu” from the Shrine menu in order to use them.
The items that will help raise proficiency have gray symbols next to their picture, above their description. Ninja items will show a gray shuriken while Onmyo items will show a gray talisman, like so:

Ninja’s Locks and Onmyo Mage’s Locks are items that can be used to immediately gain a single skill point for one of the two skill trees. They’re pretty rare, but can be obtained by defeating enemies, or as mission rewards.
