Animal Crossing: New Horizons introduces crafting to the series. No longer will you have to simply acquire items through spending Bells and befriending neighbors. You can now just build the things you need. Hardwood and softwood are two particular crafting materials you’re going to need quite a bit in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, so let’s run you through how to get them.
How to Get Hardwood in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
The good news is that getting hardwood is no different to obtaining normal wood. For this, you’ll need an axe of some sort. A flimsy axe will do just fine. You’ll need five tree branches and a stone to craft it once you’ve got the recipe and access to a Workbench.
Once you’ve got one, simply walk over to any tree in your island and press A. You’ll hit the tree with your axe and each time you’ll get some wood. You can hit any tree a maximum of three times before it’ll stop giving you wood for the day, so just move onto the next one.
Hardwood is also obtained by hitting trees with your axe, it’s just a rare drop. That means you won’t find it quite as often as normal wood.
Getting Softwood in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
To get softwood in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it’s the exact same once again. Simply walk over to a tree and hit it with your axe. You have a chance of Softwood dropping, but again it might not be as common as you were hoping. Still, luck favors the persistent, or something like that.
