Crafting the Blast Furnace

The Blast Furnace isn’t all that difficult to craft. You need the following materials to craft it:

The first thing you’re going to need to do is to craft yourself a normal Furnace if you don’t already have one. All you need for this is eight Cobblestone, which can be found by simply digging for a little bit. It’s that light grey-colored stone.

Iron Ingots will require you to find Iron Ore blocks. These can also be found by simply digging down a little bit and looking out for that silver glisten in blocks.

Smelting down the Iron Ore blocks into Iron Ingots requires a Furnace. Simply put the Iron Ore block into the furnace with some fuel like coal or wood at the bottom to smelt it down.

To craft Smooth Stone, you need to put Cobblestone in your Furnace. Once this has finished ‘cooking’ once, you’ll have Stone. Now, put the Stone back into the Furnace and let it ‘cook’ again. When it’s finished, you’ll now have Smooth Stone.

Now all you need to do is combine all of these crafting ingredients together at a crafting table. You’ll now be able to build a Blast Furnace.

If you need to add these into the crafting grid in specific positions, you’ll want the typical 3×3 grid for starters.

From there, you want to put your three smooth stone across the bottom row, and the furnace in the very center block. The remaining three blocks on the top row, and the two middle side blocks will be where you put your five Iron Ingots to fill the grid. Congrats, you’ve just made Minecraft’s Blast Furnace.

What It’s Used For

The Blast Furnace is essentially a bigger and better version of the standard Furnace. It allows you to smelt down metal ores or items into ingots.

While you can do this with a normal Furnace, the Blast Furnace does so at twice the speed, saving you a ton of time. It does consume fuel at twice the speed, but it’s not too hard to find.

Using the Blast Furnace

All you need to do is place your ore or metal tools into the top of the Blast Furnace, and a fuel source such as coal or wood in the bottom.

Give it a bit of time and hey presto, you’ve just smelted down that old tool or bit of ore into a handy ingot, ready to be crafted into something new.
