How to Start the Cindered Shadows DLC in Fire Emblem Three Houses

First things first, you need to have purchased the Expansion Pass for the game, which is currently available on the Nintendo Switch eShop for $24.99. Head on there to buy the Pass, and then make sure to update your game application to apply the Pass content.

After that, simply boot up your game as per normal, and choose the Side Story option from the title screen. The Cindered Shadows story is completely separate from the main campaign, which means that players can jump in any time. However, do be warned that the Cindered Shadows scenario is supposedly a bit more of a challenge than the main game, so be prepared for that.

After choosing the Side Story option, you can choose between Normal and Hard difficulty, as well as Casual and Classic modes. Normal and Hard determine the combat difficulty, while Casual and Classic determine whether there’s permadeath or not.

Once you’ve made your selection, you can get started immediately, and you’re good to go.

To recap, here’s how to start the Cindered Shadows DLC in Fire Emblem Three Houses:

  1. Purchase the Expansion Pass from the Nintendo Switch eShop.

  2. Update your game application.

  3. Boot up the game, and choose Side Story from the title screen.
