2020 is a huge year for Microsoft and Sony since both gaming companies are launching a brand-new console to kick off the next generation but Nintendo is still keeping up with some Switch exclusives of their own.
Once a Nintendo Direct happens, there will most likely be some news concerning the rest of the year for big releases but here are five big Switch exclusives coming in 2020 that are worth getting hyped about.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE was originally a Wii U title from Atlus that brought together the worlds of Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei. It’s basically a Persona game so if you’re been itching for another one of those, now is the time to jump in.
This Switch port comes out very soon on Jan. 17 and it’s not just a straight copy and paste of the original, it comes included with some bonus content like new songs, dungeons, and extra party members to help you during the stylish turn-based battles in this JRPG.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is probably the most anticipated Switch exclusive of 2020 so far and after watching any of the gameplay footage, you should be able to see why.
Animal Crossing is a very passive experience that just lets you do it is that want to do. You can work on expanding your home into the biggest place on the island, you can do small tasks to save up money, you can hang out with friends and then show off your interior decorating skills, or you can literally just try to catch every fish in the game –it’s incredible.
It sucks to be in debt to a mischievous little raccoon for the entire game but it’s something you just end up being fine with, because who doesn’t have debt nowadays.
You too can become indebted to an animal once New Horizons launches on March 20, 2020.
Axiom Verge 2
Axiom Verge 2 was recently unveiled during a Nintendo Indie World showcase and while it’s probably the smallest game in this list, it’s still something worthy of being excited for.
The developer was heavily inspired by titles like Metroid and Castlevania, so yes you can call this a Metroidvania for sure. It uses sprites and pixel art to convey an art style that looks straight out of the 90s and it’s absolutely beautiful.
The first game was primarily focused on exploration and action, and thanks to literally dozens of weapons, fighting against enemies was really fun and had more variety to its combat compared to other Metroidvanias in recent years.
There’s no solid release date yet but it’s coming to the Switch in 2020 and that’s really all the information I need right now to be excited.
No More Heroes 3
After ten years of not having a mainline, numbered entry in the hack and slash franchise, No More Heroes is back and it’s coming to the Switch as an exclusive.
Suda51’s series is known for having some crazy combat, insane characters, and a plot that can sometimes make fun of itself and breaks the fourth wall. In the previous titles, the main character, Travis Touchdown, had to assassinate the top fighters in the league to work his way up to becoming the number one assassin in the world.
Now that he’s in the top spot, there’s only one place to go to fight even stronger dudes and that’s in outer space.
Grasshopper Manufacture has yet to show off official gameplay of No More Heroes 3 but it’s promised to have that same zany katana and wrestling-based action.
I can’t wait to suplex some bad guys again. There’s no formal release date just yet but it’s still planned to launch sometime in 2020.
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition
Back in the Wii days, there was a vocal minority of people that really wanted Xenoblade Chronicles, among other titles, to come to the West. This campaign was called Operation Rainfall, and guess what? It worked.
Xenoblade Chronicles finally came to the west in 2012 and was probably the most ambitious and open JRPG to come to the Wii but because of the graphical limits of the platform, the game suffered a bit from looking kinda muddy.
This definitive edition for the Switch will be revamping the cel-shaded visuals to appeal to a modern audience and will bring it to an HD console for the first time ever.
You can look forward to this one when it launches as a Switch exclusive this year.
