Offense isn’t always the answer in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and when it isn’t, you’ll want to know how to block. That’s why we’re here with a guide to walk you through how, and when, to do it.
How to Block in Dragon Ball Z Kakarot
Like with most modern games that feature combat mechanics, blocking is executed by pressing one button on your controller or keyboard.
For the PlayStation 4, this means pressing and holding down the L2 button. For the Xbox One, meanwhile, this means pressing and holding down the LT button. As for PC, we don’t currently have access to a copy to confirm the control input needed, but we’ll add it in as soon as we can.
The different control inputs needed to block in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot can likewise be found in the table below.

PlayStation 4 | L2 |
Xbox One | LT |
When to Block in Combat
However, blocking is not a end-all be-all defensive strategy in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.
A small amount of damage will still be dealt to your character when they block an attack, and your character can be killed if you don’t pay careful attention to how much health you have to work with. Likewise, your character won’t be as mobile while blocking, making them a moving target until they drop their guard and go back on the attack.
As such, blocking should be considered a tool you should use sparingly in combat. Bring it out when you need to negate large bursts of damage or when you can reliably break up your opponent’s flow of attacks. Once you’ve done this, go back to attacking or dodging to reliably bring down your opponent.
That should cover everything you’ll need to know about how to block in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. For more on the game, check out our guide wiki.
