Recently, Bandai Namco revealed Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions, and today you get to see the first actual gameplay.
The video comes courtesy of YouTube user CGInferno, and it’s played on PS4.
We get to see the most-classic match possible with hero team Nankatsu battling against their arch-rivals, Toho.
While the soccer simulation certainly isn’t as advanced as your FIFA or PES, it isn’t trying to be, taking a decidedly arcade approach.
Of course, cinematic super-shots like Kojiro Hyuga’s Tiger Shot are a big part of it all.
It remains to be seen if our heroes will get seriously injured all over the place as they do on the original manga and anime. That kind of drama is also a big part of Captain Tsubasa.
You can watch it below.
You may not be familiar with the franchise, as its popularity varies a lot from region to region.
While in North America the original Captain Tsubasa anime never rose to prominence, I don’t think I’m exaggerating by arguing that in many European and Latin American countries (and of course, Japan) almost every kid grown up in the past forty years knows about it.
In the countries where it has been airing regularly on TV for decases, Captain Tsubasa is an absolute legend, and likely one of the most well-known and loved anime of all time.
Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is currently developed by Tamsoft, and it will release for PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC worldwide in 2020.
