5 of the Best Anime Games of 2019 That Did Their Shows Proud

One Piece: World Seeker

Recommended Videos

One Piece has had its fair share of video game adaptions, but nothing has been nearly as ambitious as World Seeker. This open world game featured a brand new original story that sees the Straw Hat crew travel to Jail Island.

Playing as Luffy you can use your Gum-Gum powers to traverse the island and take down enemies, engaging in a ton of side quests and side activities along the way.

World Seeker perfectly captures the spirit and look of One Piece, and while it has some pacing and performance issues, it’s a surprisingly good open world experience.

DLC packs have only improved on the experience by letting you play as Roronoa Zola and Sabo, with another on the way focusing on Trafalgar Law.

If you’re a One Piece fan, then World Seeker is an absolute must-play.

Steins;Gate Elite

Okay, this one’s a bit roundabout as Steins;Gate the anime was originally based on a visual novel. However, Steins;Gate Elite tells the same story as the original game while directly adapting the anime into the experience.

It’s a bit hard to describe, but Steins;Gate Elite is a game that quite literally has you playing the anime. Every bit of the game is animated by using scenes from the show, as well as brand new animation.

This makes for an incredibly fluid visual novel experience that feels more interactive than static artwork.

The same phenomenal story and characters are all there, but it’s more engaging than ever before.

SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays

Gundam is one of the longest-running anime franchises out there, and yet, there’s a multitude of games that have never made their way west. Case in point is the SD Gundam G Generation games, a series of fantastic strategy games that pull together characters and mobile suits from across the franchise.

SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays lets you re-experience the stories and characters fro Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, Gundam 00, and Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans. The strategy is surprisingly involved, letting you build custom teams and develop you mobile suits and pilots.

There’s plenty to love if you’re a Gundam fan, but even if you’re simply a fan of grid-based strategy Cross Rays would appeal to you.

Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle

Attack on Titan has exploded into popularity over the last decade, and Koei Tecmo’s adaption remains the best video game version of the series.

Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle is an enhanced version of the original game, featuring loads of new story, playable characters, and more.

Gameplay is just as tight and brutal as ever, but Final Battle also gives you access to new equipment like the Thunder Spear and Anti-Personnel Gear.

With Final Battle the game now spans the events of seasons 1-3 of the anime, and features a massive roster of over 40 playable characters.

The small refinements and additions make Final Battle the best version of Koei Tecmo’s Attack on Titan yet.

Doraemon: Story of Seasons

Story of Seasons and the adorable anime Doraemon might seem like a strange combination, but it works surprisingly well.

Doraemon Story of Seasons puts you in the shoes of Nobita, after Doraemon and friends are transported to another world by a mysterious seed.

As you might expect from a Story of Seasons game, it’s a laid-back experience that lets you build your own farm at your own pace. You’ll need to plow fields, go fishing, takes care of sheep, and help out other Doraemon characters.

The twist that comes from Doraemon are the gadgets that you can unlock, which will grant you thins like weather cards to change the weather or an Anywhere Door that lets you fast-travel.

Doraemon Story of Seasons effectively manages to combine elements of both series, and it’s a charming feel-good game that’s perfect to kick back with.
