Pokemon Sword & Shield: How to Get Type: Null & Evolve Into Silvally

type null, pokemon sword, pokemon shield, pokemon sword and shield, how to get

Most Pokemon that trainers encounter are naturally occurring creatures, but gamers who scour the Pokedex will find more than a few that were created by in-game humans. Some obvious examples are Porygon, Mewtwo, Golett, Genesect, and Type: Null.

While most artificial Pokemon didn’t make it into Sword and Shield, Type: Null is one of the few lucky monsters to survive the infamous Dexit. However, catching one is both complicated and simple at the same time, so to clear up any confusion, here’s a quick and dirty guide on how to get Type: Null in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

How to Get Type: Null in Pokemon Sword and Shield

If you played Pokemon Sun and Moon/Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, what I’m about to say will sound familiar. If not, pay close attention.

As already stated, Type: Null is not a naturally occurring Pokemon. It was developed by the Aether Foundation (the main villains of Sun and Moon) to fight Ultra Beasts, and only three copies of the creature exist in Pokemon canon. Therefore, you can’t encounter one in the wild, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find and own one.

After you become the Pokemon Champion and complete the game, you can enter the Battle Tower in Wyndon. Once you arrive, head to the left of the lobby, and you will see a Type: Null standing next to a staff member. Just talk to the staff person, and they will gift you the Pokemon.

However, you’re not done yet. Type: Null can evolve into Silvally, but the process isn’t as simple as just leveling the Pokemon.

How to Evolve into Silvally

In order to evolve your new Type: Null into Silvally, you must level the Pokemon when it has high friendship. Any level will do, so long as its friendship is 220 or above.

The most obvious way to increase friendship with Type: Null is to keep it in your party and use it in battle (just don’t let it faint). You can also feed the Pokemon vitamins and curry. Moreover, if you have a Soothe Bell, you can make the Type: Null hold the item so it will gain friendship even faster.

If you are desperate to raise its friendship level, you can feed it special berries, such as the Pomeg and Kelpsy Berry. Any berry with an item description that states it raises a Pokemon’s friendship will do, but these come at a significant cost.

Each berry that increases friendship also decreases a specific stat, such as HP and Special Defense, so only use these berries as a last resort. Or, at the very least, mitigate the changes by feeding your Pokemon the appropriate vitamins.

Let’s sum up how to get Type: Null and Silvally in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

  1. Beat the game and visit the Battle Tower.

  2. Talk to the staff member on the left of the tower to receive a free Type: Null.

  3. Increase its friendship level to 220.

  4. Level it up when it has high friendship, and it will evolve into Silvally.
