The Dynamax technique is unique to the Galar region, and when used on a particular Pokemon it will cause them to grow to many times their regular size, and make them far more powerful for a limited time.

How to Dynamax in Pokemon Sword & Shield

The Dynamax technique can only be used under very specific circumstances, and as it is quite powerful, only lasts for three turns. Its inclusion adds a new layer of strategy to battles and its really cool to see it in action.

You can only Dynamax a Pokemon in either a Gym Battle or a den battle in the Wild Area. Just remember that Gym Leaders will use this ability as well, and it can be devastating if you arent prepared.

To Dynamax a Pokemon when in an appropriate battle, you must select the Dynamx button, which will appear to the left of your list of regular attacks. The Dynamax meter has to be full as well, and it will slowly fill throughout the course of the fight.

Once activated, your Pokemon will now have a new selection of moves. There are always four, and some may be repeats, but they seem to correlate with the element or type of attack that they replace.

These attacks will be very powerful, and can often turn the tide of battle in your favor. Just remember that it won’t last forever, and make the most of it while you can during your three turns.
