Death Stranding: How to Shout Out (A Shout in the Dark Trophy)

how to shout out in death stranding

The landscape of Death Stranding is a pretty hostile one, and it can also get incredibly lonely, too. Aside from the ladders and rope anchors that you can find from other players, you don’t ever see another friendly person wandering the world. That doesn’t stop Sam from shouting out at the top of his voice though in the hope of hearing something back. Here’s how to shout out in Death Stranding.

Shouting Out in Death Stranding

To shout out simply press the touchpad at any time. This will cause Sam to call out to anyone in his surroundings. This doesn’t really have any gameplay mechanic to it, but it’s just to help emphasize how alone things can be working on your own as well as how fulfilling it can be to find out you’re not so alone after all.

That’s because when you shout out in Death Stranding, there’s actually the possibility that another player can shout back at you. For that, though, you’ll need to make sure you’re online.

How to Have a Shout Out Returned & Get A Shout in the Dark Trophy

To get the ‘A Shout in the Dark’ trophy, players need to “Send a shout out and have it returned for the first time.” To do this, you must be online. If you’re not, then you won’t be connected to Death Stranding’s servers, and therefore a player won’t be able to hear your shout, and therefore yell back at you.

Having a shout returned in Death Stranding is largely down to luck. You’ve just got to keep pressing the touchpad in different places throughout the game and hope that another player will hear you and press the touchpad right back at you.
