Today Nippon Ichi Software ifficially revealed the new game that it teased a little while ago, and I challenge you to read its title without getting your tongue twisted. It’s void tRrLM(); //Void Terarium.
The game’s weird title might bring back memories, as it comes from the same Masayuki Furuya who brought us Hotaru no Nikki back in 2014, or “htoL#NiQ” for those in the know.
He also worked on the more recent The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince.
Furuya-san is again in charge of both direction and character design.
The game is a rogue-like JRPG featuring the last human on a devastated Earth and her companion robot.
The game is set in a world where civilization has been destroyed by the spreading of toxic fungi (so it’s basically The Last of Us Part III).
A robot comes back to “life” in the scrapyard of a factory and wandering the ruins he finds a small girl, named Toriko, sleeping as the fungi have started to contaminated her body.
The robot rescues her and takes care of her, but she can’t live in the devastated and contaminated world. In order to save her, we need to create a sterile environment named Terarium.
As gameplay progresses, we also need to collect food for Toriko, who is weakened by the fungi and can’t take care of herself.
The world has been a wasteland for hundreds of years, so we’ll face hostile evolved machines and mutants.
Various hardships threaten the little Toriko, like starvation, contamination, and diseases. The Terarium is the only place where she can survive. Our tasks also include improving it to make it more comfortable, and taking care of the little girl if she falls sick.
Below you can enjoy the first trailer and screenshots.
void tRrLM(); //Void Terarium will launch in Japan for PS4 and Nintendo Switch on January 23, 2020. It’ll cost 6,980 yen.
