The Outer Worlds, the new RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, has finally arrived on consoles and PC and, as you’d expect, it shares many similarities with the likes of the Fallout series. As you play, you’ll meet characters who will join you on your journey. So that you know how relationships work in the game, here’s everything you need to know about whether there is romance in The Outer Worlds.
From the first town in the game, you’ll start meeting the game’s companions. They are characters who will follow you on quests, give you tasks to complete, and engage in conversations with other important figures that you want information from.
The questions is: can you begin a romantic relationship with them, as you can in RPGs from studios like Bioware?
Is There Romance in Outer Worlds?
Unfortunately, there are no romance options whatsoever in the game. You’ll get to know your companions, do things for them if they ask, and they react differently to you as the story progresses, but you can’t actually do anything romantic with them.
In our interview with The Outer Worlds’ Senior Designer, Brian Hines, we were told that “romances were just something we had to look at as, nope, not something we can really tackle at this point.”
Hines went on to say “We like doing them” but added that Obsidian “just want to make sure that if we are going to do them, we do them well.”
There are no romance options at all. You will meet companions, but you can’t begin romantic relationships with any of them.
