If you’ve yet to hear the unfortunate news, AlphaDream, the developers behind the Mario & Luigi RPG franchise that started back in 2003 with Superstar Saga, has filed for bankruptcy in Tokyo due to rising development costs and “sluggish” revenue income for the studio.
This team has been around for quite some time and was known for creating top-notch writing by bringing together the characters from the Mario universe and using them in creative and unique ways.
You had Bowser’s Inside Story in 2009 which has the duo controlling Bowser from the inside of his body and Paper Jam in 2015 which brought together the Paper Mario series and the RPG series for an iconic crossover.
Due to the bankruptcy, it seems that the developer is no more as AlphaDream’s official website has even shut down after the news came out which has led die-hard fans on Twitter to let out their support via nostalgic and emotional tweets, retelling their memories with the RPG series.
To be completely honest, I myself am a big fan of the older Mario & Luigi RPG titles and reading dozens and dozens of these tweets almost made me tear up a little, so I apologize beforehand if these get you feeling the feels.
We really hope that this beloved franchise finds a home or just a new developer to take over what AlphaDream has created and improved on over the last 15 years or so.
