After the spectacular event that saw the whole world be sucked into a black hole on Sunday, Fortnite is finally back with Chapter 2, a whole new map, and a load of new gameplay elements. So that you can quickly traverse the new rivers and lakes in the game, here’s everything you need to know about how to swim in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1.
As you’ll see when skydiving onto the new map for the first time, there’s water all over the place. From lakes to narrow streams, there are loads of places to go for a quick dip.
However, you can now do more than just wander around in the water awkwardly.
How to Swim in Fortnite Chapter 2
To swim, all you have to do is jump into the water (or walk in if you prefer) and you should start swimming.
We did find that if you jump off piers into deeper water, you might have to press the sprint button, which is clicking in the left thumbstick, to get your character to actually start swimming.
If you don’t try to sprint while in the water, your character will just kind of walk around in it, but that doesn’t happen all of the time.
How to Dive & Get Speed Boost
Once you’re actually in the water, you can get a speed boost of sorts by diving, like a dolphin would. By pressing the jump button (X on PS4, A on Xbox One), your character will leap out of the water and dive back in, giving them a boost as they reach the surface again.
That makes it perfect for when you’re trying to escape enemies who are trying to chase you, or hide from people who are trying to track you from the safety of their new speedboat.
Time needed: 1 minute
In short, follow these steps to dive in Fortnite Chapter 2:
- Just walk into the water and you should start swimming.
If you jump in from a pier, you might need to press the sprint button to activate the swimming animation.
- You can then press jump (X/A) to dive and go a little faster in the water.
