Most of the dungeons in Link’s Awakening requires you to find keys to gain access. If you’re trying to get into the Key Cavern Dungeon in the game, here’s how to get the Slime Key so that you can unlock the Slime Keyhole in Link’s Awakening.
How to Get Slime Key
In Pothole Field, the small area just east of Toronbo Shores, you will find a small house that is owned by a guy named Richard. The Slime Key is actually secretly hidden in the field behind his villa, but you need access first.
By talking to Richard, he’ll task you with going to Kanalet Castle and collecting five golden leaves for him. Doing this is actually pretty easy and once you get back to him, he’ll move a block in his house, letting you use a staircase that will take you back outside.
As soon as you come out of the cave, you’ll see one of those little owl statues. If you examine it, it’ll give you a little hint about where the key is.
Now, just use your shovel to dig right in front of the owl and you will find the Slime Key, which will grant you access to the Key Cavern, which is actually just north of Richard’s Villa.
To sum things up:
- Go to Richard’s Villa and complete his quest.
- Go back to him and you’ll be able to go to the field behind his house.
- Use the shovel to dig in the spot right in front of the owl statue to find the Slime Key.
