As you’ll notice by taking a quick glance at your inventory, you’ll get access to guns pretty early on in the game. However, you won’t actually be able to pull them out during Greedfall’s battles.

How to Use Guns in Greedfall

While the ability to use guns in the game is tied to a skill called Firearms (which is the leftmost icon in the six central skills on that screen), and is unlocked automatically from the start of the game, it doesn’t mean that you can use all guns.

While having that skill technically means you can use guns, if you have a gun in your inventory, you’ll see that they usually have requirements, which are noted under the stats and boosts the specific weapon gives De Sardet and his companions.

For example, to use rifles you need to unlock the rifle skill, which is fourth in the firearms chain in the skill tree. Then, those same weapons might need you to unlock particular attributes.

The Accuracy Attribute’s description reads “attribute required to wield the best firearms” so be sure to unlock level one of that quickly if you want to use rifles and other powerful weapons.

Once you’ve hit the requirements needed for the guns you want to use, you’ll see the words turn white, having been red before.

You’ll then need to select the Firearms section in De Sardet’s equipment menu, and then select it to equip it. You’ll then be able to switch between weapons in combat by pressing R1 if you’re on PS4, or RB on Xbox One.

In short,

  1. You can technically use guns from the start of the game.

  2. However, many of them will have requirements that you need to meet, which are tied to specific skills and attributes that you will need to unlock.
