Last year’s Icons release was a shambles. It started off in SBC groups, then was changed to individual SBCs, and then some players didn’t even get them.

Then, in January, we were introduced to Moments without a warning and EA couldn’t make their mind up how to deal with them. Hopefully Icons will be a little easier to understand in FIFA 20.

How to Get Icons in FIFA 20

With the release of a new Pitch Notes article, we now know how Icons will work in the game.

First of all, you will be able to get them from packs. Different ones will be available at different times of the year, and those times are as follows:

  • Base – From release until mid-December
  • Mid – Release until mid-February
  • Prime – Mid-December until end of the game
  • Prime Moments – Mid-February until end of the game

You’ll simply have to open any gold packs and keep your fingers crossed. Over the decade I’ve been playing FUT, I’ve never packed one from thousands of hours spent on the game, so I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

You can also buy them from the transfer market, but you’ll need to have a lot of coins to buy the decent ones. Sometimes upwards of five or six million for the likes of Ronaldo and Ruud Gullit.

Icon SBCs & Icon Swaps in FIFA 20

EA Sports is also making changes to how Icons work with SBCs. In FIFA 20, there will be no individual or player pick SBCs, nor will Icons ever be used as SBC requirements.

Instead, they’re introducing Icons Swaps, which seems to be similar to Swap Deals but focused on Icons only.

By completing Objectives in Ultimate Team that reward you with Icon Swap Tokens, you’ll be able to work towards unlocking a player from a pre-determined pool.

There will be three Icon Swap periods throughout FIFA 20, each will feature a different set of players, but each Icon in a set will have a different number of tokens needed to unlock it. You can see the players included in the first set down below.

When the first Icon Swaps period begins on Oct. 11, we’ll have more info on how it works and what you need to do to earn the tokens.

That’s everything you need to know about how to get Icons in FIFA 20. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to check out our wiki guide. We have also listed some other helpful guides down below.
