Borderlands 3 brings back all the co-op goodness that shooter fans could ask for, this time with more guns and weapons than you can shake a stick at. Of course, co-op is the main focus in Borderlands 3, and unlike past games you’ll have two different options to choose from in terms of gameplay. With that, you’ll be wondering should you choose cooperation or coopetition in Borderland 3. We’ve got your answer.
Should You Choose Cooperation or Coopetition in Borderlands 3
Borderlands 3 now gives you two different options to choose from in terms of the kind of co-op experience you and your friends want.
First off is Cooperation Mode. In this mode instance loot is turned on, meaning each player can get the loot. At the same time, forgiving level scaling is applied meaning players of wildly different levels can still play together without any extra difficulty.
Coopetition mode, on the other hand, is basically the exact opposite of that. Level scaling is disabled, and loot goes to the fastest player that can get to it first, letting them suck up all that sweet loot like the old days.
Which Should You Choose
It’s pretty simple to pick which mode you want to play as in Borderlands 3. If you’re looking for a laid back fun time with your friends, then pick Cooperation.
If you’re looking for a more challenging classic Borderlands experience, then you should probably go with coopetition.
The good news, however, is that you can change this setting later on by going to the main menu and then pressing Y/triangle to open up the multiplayer menu. There you can toggle between the two settings.
Just be aware you will have to do it from the main menu, and you can’t change it on the fly during the game.
To summarize the differences,
- Choose cooperation if you’re looking for a more casual laid back co-op experience.
This mode turns on level scaling and has instanced loot.
- Choose coopetition if you’re looking for a more challenging, classic Borderlands experience.
This mode turns off level scaling and lets loot go to the player that gets to it first.
That’s everything you need to know about if you should choose cooperation or coopetition in Borderlands 3.
