Today Japanese developer CyberConnect2 released another video responding to a popular question about the .hack series.

Specifically, the video stars developer’s outspoken President Hiroshi Matsuyama as he talks about the possibility of making a .hack MMORPG.

Matsuyama-san mentions that it’s not impossible, but stressed the relevance of the fact that one of the charming points of the series was recreating an offline story set within a MMORPG, instead of simply putting players into an actual online environment.

While he believes that simply making another MMORPG wouldn’t be very interesting, Matsuyama-san concludes by mentioning that ultimately a lot of what the developer does is determined by the fans’ requests.

You can check out the whole video below and hear what Matsuyama-san has to say.

If you want to hear more from Matsuyama-san, you can also listen to what he said about the possibility of remastering the original .hack//Infection, .hack//Mutation, .hack//Outbreak, and .hack//Quarantine for PS3, and another video focusing on the chance of seeing a Bleach game made by CyberConnect 2.

Personally, considering just how good the story of Final Fantasy XIV is, I think it’d be possible to merge storytelling and online interaction. Yet, to be completely honest, I’m perfectly happy with .hack remaining a single-player JRPG series, as long as we get a new one. It’s about time.
