Roll the Credits
The first thing that you should take care of before you get excited for the new Iceborne expansion for Monster Hunter: World is to beat the main storyline and roll the credits.
In fact, this is the only prerequisite that you’ll need in order to jump into the new Hoarfrost region and face off against the slew of new monsters.
Even though MHW offers literally hundreds upon hundreds of hours of gameplay, it actually shouldn’t take you more than 50 hours or so to complete the main campaign, if you don’t dillydally that is.
Stick to the main story quests and try not to mess around with useless sidequests. You still have a few more weeks until Iceborne launches, Sep. 6 to be exact, so there’s plenty of time to do the deed.
But if you don’t want to be left out of the fun, I recommend beating the game ASAP.
To tell you all the truth, even though I have almost 70 hours in the game, I’ve yet to complete the main story… I know, it’s terrible but I spend too much time having fun with random people online.
But now that the expansion is on the horizon, I’m dedicating the rest of my time to the storyline quests… I’ll try at least.
Farm Decorations
Some weapons and armor pieces have slots that you can place decorations into that can enhance certain stats like attack power, defense, and health.
Gathering up as many of these as you can will be helpful against the monster fights in Iceborne, considering that these will be the strongest monsters that you’ll face in the game.
Completing high-level quest events and going on Elder Dragon hunts once your hunter rank reaches a high number is a great way to get some really neat decorations/jewels. These Elder Dragon fights can be a pain in the butt, but the rewards are definitely worth it.
You can also go to the Melding Pot to turn in your not-so-useful decorations and jewels so that you can actually get something worthwhile.
Max out Weapon Upgrades
There’s a new rank coming to Iceborne called the Master Rank, meaning that monsters are going to be very tough but there will be new weapon upgrades that will be unlocked that you’ll need to work towards once you jump into the expansion.
Since the weapon trees won’t be able to be seen until the release date, we recommend trying to max out the weapons that you like using the most so that you’ll be ready once you play Iceborne.
If you have like one or two weapons that you like using the most, try to focus on making them as strong as possible cause you’re going to need all of the help you can get if you want to survive the super-hard Master rank class of quests.
Start Hoarding
Max out all of your items. Seriously, just get as much stuff as you can that can be used in difficult quests. Make sure to have as many shock traps, pitfalls, tranquilizers, mega potions, lifepowders, and anything else that you can get your hands on.
I’m not even joking you guys; I’m talking 100 antidotes, blue mushrooms, armor spheres, heavy armor spheres! Hoard it all!
Just pretend as if everything you know about the base game of Monster Hunter: World will be gone in a few weeks. You need to be prepared for these new Iceborne threats and this is one of the best ways to do it.
Get Lots and Lots of Zenny (Money)
If you’re planning on upgrading your weapons and armor with the new sets that come with Iceborne, you better have a lot of cash on you (zenny) because this stuff is very expensive.
You can quickly spend literally all of your money to upgrade a weapon or two, so make sure to complete high money-making quests, sell all of your junk that you don’t need, and be thrifty when possible.
Another good way to make a profit is to complete quests by yourself.
The more people you have in your party, the less of the quest reward money you will get. Go hunting by yourself sometimes and you don’t have to worry about splitting the profit –who needs friends?
Get a Good Group Together
Just kidding. Friends are actually very helpful when you’re fighting a monster that’s way too strong for you. While it’s good to be by yourself sometimes to make extra money, we recommend getting a good hunting group together.
Find people who are definitely going to purchase Iceborne on day one and players who are respectable, strong, friendly, and reliable –people who will jump online to help you at any given moment.
You can play with random people online of course, but there’s no better feeling than playing with people close to you who you can talk to during hunts and laugh at dumb stuff while also kicking butt.
Git Gud
There’s no easy way to say this my friend, but you guys need to get good in Monster Hunter: World if you want to succeed in Iceborne. Going to the new Master Rank from High Rank will feel just like going from Low Rank to High in the base game.
I suggest mastering one weapon or two to get a good grip on it and keep upgrading it until it’s super-powerful. Learn the best methods of attack, get a feel for its weight and combos, and also know your strengths and weaknesses.
