Nintendo Switch Lite Announced with Release Date & Price; Differences with Standard Switch Detailed

Today Nintendo announced a new addition to the Switch family with the Nintendo Switch Lite.

The new console will be made available on September 20, and it’ll be priced at $199.99.

It’ll come in three different colors, Yellow, Turquoise, and Grey. It’ll lose the separate Joy-Cons (but it’ll still be compatible with them if you purchase them separately) and the ability to connect to a TV, but it’ll still be compatible in multiplayer with existing Nintendo Switch models.

That means that it’ll work with all the Nintendo Switch games that support handheld mode.

It’s also considerably smaller (3.6” high, 8.2” long, .55” deep as opposed to 4” high, 9.4” long, .55” deep) and lighter (.61 lbs against .88 lbs) than its predecessor. It loses a bit in screen real estate, with 5.5″ across instead of 6.2″ across.

That being said, it also gains a bit in battery life, with 3 to 7 hours instead of 2.5 to 6.5 hours. While the full-fledged Switch is said to manage to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for three hours, the Lite version will keep on going for four hours.
