What Does Charm Do in Fire Emblem: Three Houses

  • Helps Recruiting Students
  • Increases Battalion and Gambit Damage
  • Class Unlock

Charm is important for a few reasons. First, throughout the game, you’ll be able to recruit students from other houses to join whichever one of the three (Golden Deer, Blue Lions, Black Eagles) you choose to join.

Some students will only join your house if you have a high enough charm stat, so it’s worthwhile keeping your own Charm stat high to get the best students.

On the battlefield, it affects your Battalion and Gambit damage. Each Battalion you can equip to your character grants a particular Gambit, which essentially acts as a special ability or attack.

Finally, it determines how well you’ll perform in a story event. Slight spoilers inbound! During the inter-house dance competition, each house chooses a representative to compete.

You’ll want to pick the character with the highest charm stat for the best chance of winning. Doing so will unlock the Dancer class for that character.

Unfortunately, Charm is the only stat in the game that can’t be increased through the standard means such as Lectures and Combat. To increase Charm, you’ll need to unlock and take part in Tea Parties.

To unlock Tea Parties, you’ll need to complete the ‘Tea for Two’ side quest from Ferdinand, which requires you to give his tea set to Lorenz. Upon doing this, you’ll be able to talk to a student and invite them to a tea party. It’s worth noting that you will need Tea Leaves which can be obtained from gardening to pour tea.

After this, you’ll then be given three chances to engage in conversation with the student. You want to pick the topic from the options you’re given that the student would be most interested in.

Get it wrong twice in a row and they’ll leave. But get all three correct, and you’ll need to clear a final interaction where the student says something, and you need to choose the correct response.

If you get this correct, you’ll get a ‘Perfect Tea Time’ which increases your support points with that character and enables you to spend as much time with the student and examine them with the camera from different angles… okay then!

If you’re able to get Perfect Tea Time, you and the character you spent time with will receive one Charm point.
