The Fearless House Leader Edelgard

Black Eagles

So you’re about to make the toughest video game choice of 2019, and you need a little help. Well, don’t worry because the answer is simple. I’m not saying the other houses are wrong in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, but they certainly aren’t right.

Edelgard, the leader of the Black Eagles, has witts, battlefield senses, and a giant axe that cleaves foes in half. She is the entire package. She’s much more ferocious than the two pretty boys, Claude and Dimitri.

While Dimitri is focusing on parting his hair in three different directions and Claude is smiling at the camera, Edelgard is concentrating on her studies and learning how to exploit her enemies weaknesses. Join her if you like to win.

The Name Black Eagles

Black Eagles

Something as superficial as a name shouldn’t necessarily be a deciding factor, but it feels incredibly satisfying to say you’re apart of a group called the Black Eagles.

The imagery of black eagles soaring through the sky and hunting their prey sounds like something you don’t want to be on the other end of.

Sure, I guess the Blue Lions and Golden Deer sound cool if you like creatures that roam around on the ground all day. Can either of those creatures fly? Perch on trees? I didn’t think so. They are just a bunch of wingless cats if you ask me.

Magic-Users

In Fire Emblem: Three Houses you can sculpt your students to be any sort of fighter you want them to be, however, every student will excel more naturally in specific areas.

The Black Eagles have the naturally gifted magic users of the bunch and will give you access to those talents very early on.

So while your opponents are stuck using iron swords and bows, you’ll be blasting them from afar with magic spells like Thunder or Miasma.

You’ll deal massive damage and look fabulous while doing it. You’ll look at the Blue Lions and Golden Deer as primitive cave people while keeping a safe distance.

Plot Threads

Every house offers a unique series of plot threads to follow throughout the game. As you get to know your students, they will open up to you and share their insights, backstories, and troubles.

Getting to tug on these strings in the Black Eagle’s campaign is incredibly rewarding and has a lot of depth beneath the surface.

The Black Eagles start off cold and distant but chipping away at them and having them open up to you really drives home how much you’ve grown with them. Much more so than those chatterboxes Dimitri and Claude.

Those boys can chew your ear off, while Edelgard stays much more reserved until you’ve built up trust with her.

The Black Eagles make for an incredibly compelling narrative alongside the main plot of the game.

Petra

Petra is one of the students of the Black Eagles and arguably one of the best students in the entire game. She doesn’t speak the native tongue very well so a lot of her dialogue is misusing phrases or vocabulary which continually puts her in awkward positions.

She is also a mighty force on the battlefield and can charge in like Wonder Woman. Petra is easily one of the most satisfying students to train and watch become a powerhouse.

Just remember, if you pick another house, you’ll have to try and poach her from the Black Eagles, but she’ll never forget her roots.
