Sega finally released the Phantasy Star Online 2 update that added the Muv-Luv: Alternative crossover content into the game on the Japanese servers.
In order to celebrate, they released a large gallery of screenshots showing every element of the update which was teased in April., and there is certainly a lot to see.
The crossover content is available via AC Scratch and it includes the iconic hairstyle of stoic heroine Meiya Mitsurugi and two of her costumes, weapon camos, posters for the housing feature, and parts portraying two of Muv-Luv’s signature mechas Type-94 Shiranui and Type-00R Takemikazuchi.
Fans will notice that Meiya’s fortified suit is featured in both the United Nations standard version and in the Japanese Imperial Guard version. Unfortunately, we aren’t getting the cadet version, but fans will likely know the reason for this omission.
Considering that Muv-Luv: Alternative features some of the best mecha designs in a video game (which is fairly impressive since it’s a visual novel), seeing them in 3D certainly makes me pine for a Muv-Luv action game where we actually get to pilot those Tactical Surface Fighters.
You can take a look at the full gallery below, and at a video released a while ago.
If you don’t know what Muv-Luv is all about, it’s arguably one of the best visual novel series of all time. you can find Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv: Alternative on Steam and on PS Vita. If you’d like to know more, you can read our interview with creator Kouki Yoshimune.
A brand new release on Steam is also coming soon, named Muv-Luv Photonflowers. It will provide a wider look at the franchise’s rich lore.
On the other hand, Phantasy Star Online 2 is finally coming to North America for Xbox One and PC, after several years of waiting. Its announcement was perhaps the most surreal event of E3 2019. There is no indication that the game will launch on PS4 and Switch, which might remain confined to Japan.
