Today Square Enix released another batch of screenshots of Tokyo RPG Factory’s upcoming action-JRPG Oninaki.
The images showcase two characters, the aloof ruler Lobelia and her right-hand and son Reiou.
We also get to see plenty of gameplay screenshots showing the distinction between the world of the living and the world of the dead. In the spirit world, the five senses of the protagonist are blinded, but there are plenty of interesting elements to find.
For instance, in the spirit world, you can find chests that aren’t available in the physical one, but you won’t be able to interact with vehicles like a gondola. Physical obstacles can’t be destroyed or used as protection, while you can do both things in the physical world.
In the spirit world you’ll also be able to find distortions in space and time that will carry you to different areas. Even in battle, the laws of the two worlds are different, and it’s important to keep then in mind when fighting powerful enemies.
The spirit world also lets you meet ghosts and resolve their unfinished business, on top of acquiring new Daemons to aid you in battle.
Last, but not least, you can fast-travel to any destination you already visited by selecting it on the world map.
If you want to see more, you can also check out a recent trailer, more images including a look at the mysterious Daemon, the previous trailer and screenshots combo, another batch of screenshots and another trailer, which debuted during a Nintendo Direct a while ago. Last, but not least, you should read our interview from E3 2019.
Oninaki releases in the west on August 22 for PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. It’ll also launch in Japan on the same day.
